Computer Literacy Program

Video Technology Program

Computer Literacy Program

Christian Compassion Center, Inc. is currently in the process of establishing a community outreach training program to train young men and women computer literacy. This project is design to reach young men and women who under other circumstances would be unable to obtain this type of technical training on their on economically.

We desire to use the technical knowledge that we have obtain to implement The Computer Literacy Program and use it as a vehicle to train the youth and young adults of our ministry and in our community that other wise would not have an opportunity to learn a skill. We look at this as a positive approach to help the community that we are apart of and it helps establish us as good neighbors.

The purpose of any social program, study or experimentation is to develop a system, where by the quality of life can be improved. This in part is the motivating factor behind the development of our video technology program. The age old adage which says, "give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime", comes to mind. It has been proven time and again with several programs, that success is in part do to the ability to teach one viable skills, with which they can make a positive progression towards the goal of independence. As a positive contributor to the community in which they live, those involved will gain a sense of self worth and purpose.

This program is focused on low-income youth and young adults, which as a whole, have not received the support of society, government or the community. Most programs such a literacy, drug prevention and career orientation are geared towards the very young, for the purpose of intervention or to deal with the aftermath of a society which is plagued with social ills. There are very few programs designed to teach the skills necessary to this people group to change their quality of life, so their outlook is bleak. This hopelessness is reflected in the culture of this generation, who has been termed "The Lost Generation." Their music speaks of their hopelessness and feelings of abandonment. The crime rate especially in the case of violent crimes are at such an alarming rate that one could easily come the conclusion that this generation is one that feels they have no other alternatives except to rely on government support or resort to illegal means to survive.

The Computer Literacy Program would effectively bridge the gap between intervention and aftermath, giving young adults an alternative. This program will also enable youth to realize that they are valuable not only to themselves but to the community at large. The programs which have proven successful in the past even on a small scale have contained several common threads:

There has been some type of support system set up for the students of these programs to help them deal with the struggles they face, (i.e., child care, counseling, resources, health services, etc ... ).

The programs have been designed to teach career skills in fields which will give those trained marketability into the next century, and which will enable them to qualify for entry-level positions with a starting salary above minimum wage.

The Computer Literacy Program will create avenues of learning in the following area of discipline in the industry; (1) fundamental Post Production, (2) Studio Production, (3) and editing and post-editing skills (both analog and non-linear configuration). We will provide necessary student support services, as well as, avenues for Job Placement upon completion of training.

In our present day society problems such as: Welfare Reform, Social Security cuts, also corporate down sizing, has taken their toll upon our community, as well as, the individual families. Many people must look toward furthering their education.

The comments could go on and on, one thing is for certain our society, in the wake of the devastation of our youth, is looking for a remedy, solution, or at least a positive change. This program will serve as a positive catalyst in developing other programs for youth and young adults in the future.
